Mathey-Tissot Company was born in 1886 in Les Ponts de Martel, a village in Switzerland characterized by integrity, quality, and personalized service. Initially, Mathey-Tissot specialized in “repeater” watches that chime at the half-hour and hour mark. Soon after, the brand started producing chronographs i.e., stopwatches. These watches were constructed and produced with skill and precision making them an immediate success. The company has collected many prizes and awards for its superior quality in Europe.
In 1914, Mathey-Tissot introduced six chronographs with split-second timing. One of the models attained a record never previously achieved. Mathey-Tissot, along with its regular business of manufacturing fine watches for jewelers globally, produced thousands of timepieces for the British Navy and the United States armed forces before and during World War II.
After World War II, for a successful tender for the French Ministry of Defense Mathey-Tissot crafted the now iconic Breguet Type XX model and civilian models under its brand name. The Mathey-Tissot’s chronographs were crafted with a modified Valjoux 222 movement with a flyback complication. The Type XX, not an ordinary watch, offered the most attractive design and most accurate functionality. It was a trophy for the biggest brands, and these were manufactured by Mathey-Tissot.
No other watch offered a unique blend of precision and complication as Type XX. Mathey-Tissot introduced more affordable models of Type XX available on their online store - MT- 1970 and MT-369.
Mathey-Tissot is known today for watches offering a unique combination of quality, expertise, styling, and personal service, traits rare in the current watch industry. Their consumer, whether small or large, are names and friends. Mathey-Tissot is a brand coveted by celebrities. It was a great favorite of the legend Elvis Presley giving the brand legitimacy in the customized watchmaking industry. The brand was also spotted in Martin Scorsese’s American crime movie “The Irishman” on the wrist of Robert De Niro.
Mathey-Tissot has big plans for the future in terms of new and innovative watches. The company specializes in customized watches for its consumer, matching its expertise and resources to consumers’ specific needs. Their service is characterized by thoroughness and promptness through their global representation without any compromise on quality.
